Nepal Earthquake Rebuilding Program (NERP)

Nepal Earthquake Rebuilding Program was initiated in Sindhupalchowk and Nuwakot targeting women from 90 households (one woman per household). The project focuses on rebuilding affected communities through socio-economic empowerment for women and marginalized individuals. The mission of the NERP is to support the poorest communities affected by the 2015 earthquake through shelter homes, school resources, and economic opportunities intended to improve the socioeconomic conditions of the women and communities being served in a sustainable manner. As of today, 178 shelter homes have been built (138 in Sindhupalchowk  and 40 in Nuwakot).

Till 2024 there are 24 Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) as a part of this project, with formed in the communities of Sindhupalchowk (Sipapokhare, Jyamire and Tindhara) and in Sunkhani community of Nuwakot. Each WAG consists of 15 – 20 women. NERP has conducted different programs, including adult education, cornerstone training, recruitment of motivators and institutional support for local partners and groups, and has implemented various training programs such as goat raising, tailoring, and organic vegetable farming followed by micro credit loans in order to strengthen the capabilities of women in these communities.
