EmpowerHER: Women’s Leadership and Economic Empowerment
EmpowerHER is a women’s empowerment program. It supports marginalized women. It helps them build leadership skills and join women’s groups. In many communities, women still face barriers in finance, education, and decision-making. Therefore, the project works to remove these barriers.
The program started in November 2024. It runs for two years. It offers skill training, financial literacy, and micro-credit loans. As a result, women can start small businesses. They can also increase their income. At the same time, the program helps reduce poverty.
The project works in Sarlahi and Dhanusha districts of Central Nepal. In addition, it supports women to form new groups. It also strengthens local networks. Through this support, women take part in community activities more actively.
EmpowerHER focuses on three areas. First, it provides skill training and awareness sessions. Second, it supports access to loans and business training. Finally, it promotes women’s leadership and decision-making.
With support from UNIFOR and World Accord, six Women’s Affinity Groups have been formed. These groups are in Haripur, Hariyon, and Bela. Together, they include 143 women.
So far, 61 women have received loans. As a result, they are now running small businesses. They are also earning income and improving their livelihoods.
