An interactive 2-day roundtable meeting was organized by Women for Peace & Democracy – Nepal (WPD-Nepal) and Control Arms with funding support from New Zealand in Kathmandu, Nepal on 17-18 May 2018. This meeting on “Promoting Universalization and Strengthening Implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty in South Asia” brought together government representatives, parliamentarians and civil society from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Celebrating the important day, Women for Peace and Democracy (WPD) Nepal came out with a unified voice in calling for the ratifying, strengthening and implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). Ms. Sushmita Dawadi is an English News Editor and presenter at Radio Nepal. Ms.Dawadi accompanied Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC), Toronto, Canada and Women for Peace and Democracy Nepal (WPD Nepal) team during the field visits in the target communities of WPD Nepal, which was conducted under Photojournalism project in December 2015. Dawadi assisted the  OCIC team with interpretations and translations. Dawadi was touched, impressed and inspired by the work of WPD in transforming the lives of poorest of poor communities through women empowerment.

January 18, 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Nepal-Canada diplomatic relations. Nepal-Canada Friendship and Cultural Association organised 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal & Canada (1965-2015). KATHMANDU -- Gathered in a small room, around thirty women in matching saris are talking about money. Each one of them sets aside some monthly savings, while some pay back loans and still others take loans to begin businesses. Many are raising goats. Some have begun vegetable businesses, and a few have even begun their own vegetable farms. Yet, less than one and a half years ago, these women had no such opportunity. They were mostly uneducated, untrained for any skilled work, and unaware of attainable income-generating opportunities and laws to protect themselves.
