A one-day interschool poetry recitation event, “Voices for Peace: Poetic Stand Against Gun Violence,” was held on May 20, 2025, at Mandala Theatre, Kathmandu. Organized by WPD-Nepal in partnership with the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), the program aimed to raise awareness, which was an initiative under the UN Programme of Action (UNPoA) on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), and calling the state to monitor, regulate, and reduce small arms and light weapons proliferation for a safer and more peaceful society, being accountable to UNPoA on SALW. The young voices spoke about the consequences of gun violence and promoted peace through the creative expression of young voices. The event brought together students, teachers, parents, civil society, poets, artists, and peace activists in a collective call to reduce illicit use of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and implement the UN Programme of Action (UNPoA) for peace. 19 passionate student poets from Kathmandu recited their poems, which expressed the causes and consequences of the proliferation of small and light weapons (SALW), especially on the innocent civilians, women, and children. The event was attended by 140 participants. This event was part of a broader effort to engage youth in the global movement to reduce the proliferation and misuse of Small Arms and Light Weapons, in alignment with the United Nations Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons (UNPoA)
