On June 9th, 2017, WPD Nepal celebrated the global week of action by organizing a speech competition on the theme “The Road to Development and Peace Begins with Silencing the Guns”. The objective of this program was to highlight the consequences of misuse of Small Arms and Light Weapons along with the need for an Arms Trade Treaty. In the program, 6 schools of the Kathmandu had participated in the program, among which 2 participants from each school delivered their speech based on the theme. The program was able to educate the students and teachers of each school about the illegal use and effects of small arms in Nepal. The event was supported by the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), UNSCAR, and WPD Nepal.
